“Every day, the aviation industry is met with new and increasing requirements to go cleaner and greener.
EXOR HMI provides access to consumption data supporting the “Go Green On The Ground”, an initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions and utilize solar energy to provide ground power and preconditioned air to aircraft while docked at the terminal”

RATE’s Challenge: go green on the ground

In response to the sustainability initiative launched by Darwin International Airport, RATE is facing a significant challenge. The airport’s ambitious project involves the installation of state-of-the-art Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) systems and battery-powered Aircraft Ground Power Units (eGPU) from ITW GSE as part of a comprehensive terminal upgrade initiative. This overhaul also incorporates the implementation of a proprietary billing system for a pay-per-use strategy.

One of RATE’s challenges is to implement on their projects future-proof touch panel interface that could meet the airport’s demanding requirements. The touch panel needed to strike a delicate balance between robustness, ensuring it could withstand the rigors of airside environments, and modernity, offering cutting-edge functionality. Furthermore, it had to boast high brightness capabilities, making it suitable for external use in various weather conditions, a crucial aspect for airside locations at airports across the country. This endeavour was not merely about delivering a functional piece of equipment but aligning with the airport’s sustainability goals. RATE had to consider energy efficiency, durability, and seamless integration into the airport’s larger sustainability framework.
