Roundtable: Q&A on Servitization

In the recent issue of Automazione Oggi, our CCO Mark Olding discussed the impact of new technologies and digitalization on servitization.

The adoption of technologies such as IoT and AI is accelerating servitization, transforming traditional business models.

Companies are moving from merely selling products to providing integrated packages of products and services that offer added value to customers. Through IoT, companies can obtain real-time data on the status of their products, enabling proactive maintenance and performance optimization. AI contributes by analyzing large volumes of generated data, identifying patterns and predictions that can improve operational efficiency and service personalization.

This evolution not only increases customer satisfaction through tailored and constantly updated solutions but also opens new opportunities for recurring revenue and greater customer loyalty, which will inevitably drive the continued rise of servitization.

According to Olding, the readiness of Italian SMEs for this transformation varies greatly. On one hand, there are companies that have fully embraced technological innovation and have invested in the digitalization of their processes. On the other hand, some companies may not yet fully understand the benefits of this transformation or may understand them but face obstacles such as limited financial resources, lack of technological knowledge, or resistance to change.

However, with the support of government incentive programs and access to specialized consultancy services, many Italian SMEs will be able to progressively adopt this evolution to improve their competitiveness and remain relevant in an increasingly service-oriented market where customer value is becoming ever more central.
